Study Mode On campus

Explore figurative sculpture with our skill set focusing on hand-building techniques using clay over an armature.

Delve deep into the exploration of the human form, proportion, and classical poses as you refine your skills. Work directly from a life model and study the intricacies of the skeleton to inform your creations. Throughout the course, you'll craft small-scale sculptures with intricate detail and expressive forms, which will be bisque fired for a lasting finish.

This skill set will suit those new to sculpture and exploring the human form in clay, as well as those with experience looking to gain more techniques and skills.

You'll gain skills in hand building, an understanding of proportion and of how to apply these skills to a 3D form. You'll also look at realising 2D drawings into 3D form.

Written and practical assessments are included in this skillset and need to be completed in order to successfully achieve the units of competency.

  • Hand-building techniques for sculpting with clay
  • Understanding and application of human form and proportion in sculpture
  • Creating and refining classical poses in 3D form
