We are excited to announce that in partnership with Microsoft, MEGT and Prodigy Learning, the Microsoft Traineeship Program has expanded into Western Australia.
- With a growing IT skills shortage in WA and Australia, this training initiative aims to grow a diverse pipeline of tech talent.
- The program combines paid on-the-job training with the Certificate IV in Information Technology. Students also gain globally recognised Microsoft certifications.
- The first intake of the Microsoft Traineeship Program in WA will commence with 11 positions available, with a further intake planned for February 2021.
Trainees will receive paid, on-the-job work experience with MEGT, an Australian not-for-profit organisation, who will recruit, screen, employ and support each trainee for the duration of the program.
The demand for people with technology skills is expected to grow as the economy recovers, exacerbating Australia’s IT skills shortage.
North Metropolitan Managing Director, Michelle Hoad says the new partnership is an exciting prospect.
“The commencement of this traineeship program will enable us to deliver the skilled IT workforce that WA needs now and into the future,” Ms Hoad said.
“The tech sector in Australia is booming and it’s crucial for the next generation of IT workers to be equipped with the skills they need for the jobs of the future.”
Microsoft Australia Managing Director Steven Worrall said that traineeship programs offer an exciting career opportunity, including for those who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19.
“By working with strategic delivery partners North Metropolitan TAFE, Prodigy Learning and MEGT, as well as a network of partner and customer organisations in Western Australia – we aim to create a new pipeline of exceptional IT talent,” Mr Worrall said.
“For aspiring trainees, school-leavers, career-changers, return to work mums, those displaced by COVID-19 and others looking to enter the industry – this program provides an excellent foot-in-the-door to an exciting and rewarding career in IT, including vital on-the-job educational opportunities.”
WA businesses are also getting involved in the program, with nine employers lined up to host trainees as part of the first cohort starting in September.
Employers large and small are invited to participate by taking on trainees in 2021, joining 50 such organisations participating in the program nationally, which include ANZ, Datacom, DXC, KPMG and Oobe.
