SkillsWest Success!

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

31 July 2024

Thousands of school students and career seekers joined us at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre last week for the SkillsWest Expo, WA’s largest careers and employment expo.

High school students from across WA, parents, teachers, graduates, job seekers and members of the public had the opportunity to chat about their study options with NMTAFE staff and seek career guidance from our Jobs and Skills Centre (JSC) team.

Attendees also had the opportunity to try their hand at an array of interactive activities in our Try’aSkill area from using peddle power to race against friends in our sustainable speedsters trailer, making their creative mark in our creative industries workshop, driving autonomous remote control trucks in our mini mine site, checking their blood pressure with our nursing students, and many more!

Minister Assisting the Minister for Training and Workforce Development, Hon Hannah Beazley MLA, also attended the event, meeting with representatives from WorldSkills’ TeamWA. The Skillaroos were working on their projects at the event, ahead of representing Australia later this year.

NMTAFE Skillaroos include Jacob Dixon (Wall & Floor Tiling), Kai Baharthah King and Lachlan Gelavis (Cyber Security) and our Expert lecturers Liam Cochran (Wall & Floor Tiling), Brendan Hibbert (Graphic Design) and Ryan Goggin (Animation).

Check out the event highlights on our YouTube(opens in a new tab) channel.

Applications to Be More with NMTAFE in Semester 1, 2025 open in September.
