USB Devices at NMTAFE

For security reasons North Metropolitan TAFE don’t allow the use of USB storage devices outside of lecture theatres or the student network.

In order to ensure that you are able to use all your tools for your presentations we do have two options available if you are required to present on campus (in a room other than a lecture theatre):

  1. Forward a copy of your presentation to the meeting organiser (NMTAFE staff member) on the day prior to the meeting in order for us to load it onto the presenter's PC
  2. Request a ‘guest login’ that will allow you Internet access so you can retrieve your presentation from cloud storage (e.g. OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc).

A guest login will also enable you to utilise your own device if you wish to use that to run your presentation.

Can students use USB storage devices?

Yes.
There are no changes to students and the student network. Staff and students can continue using USB devices on the student network as they currently are.

Can student submit an assessment on a USB drive?

This is not preferred.
If students do submit an assessment on a USB device, this can be accessed on a student PC and then saved to a staff OneDrive account. Other solutions include the student submitting the assessment in Blackboard, emailing the assessment or sending the assessment via Teams.
